What a day to start!
Wow. So I´m now here on a janky hotel computer happy about the day, and totally exhausted. After a series of events on Monday that I´m not even sure how happened (perhaps details later, I need time to reflect first - don´t worry, it´s all good!), I got out on the road from Cáceres early Tuesday. Since Cáceres is on the halfway point between 2 pilgrim hostels, I could either do a half a day, or a day and a half - well of course I chose the longer one, so I set out for a long day. What I didn´t expect was the 30 mph winds that were blowing in my face CONSTANTLY for about the first 4 hours. Where am I, back in Omaha? So the wind was steady and gusted stronger, but one must continue! Met a lot of pilgrims, so many that the albergue is full tonight - I´m staying in a triple room at the cheap hotel with two Germans, one of whom doesn´t speak English or Spanish but we walked together and talked for like 2 hours. Amazing how much you can communicate with just a few words and gestures. Met 8 walkers, a whole pack of bikers, and even 1 guy on horseback. So, I don´t think I´ll get too lonely (although it does get frustrating speaking Germ-Spanglish after a while). All in all a good but exhausting first day. Gotta take care of my blisters, get some rest, and get up and do it again tomorrow! Shorter tomorrow, but mountains, and maybe rain. I´ll take whatever Spain gives me. Later.

Good to hear from you. I think the Camino on horseback sounds wonderful! Suppose Phoebe and I could make it over there to finish with you?
ReplyDeleteKeep track of that passport! I want you back in 27 days!
P.S. I love you!
